What is Allergan?
Allergan is an Irish pharmaceutical company that carries out different research and development work based on medicine and drugs. The company acquires, develops, manufactures and market brand name drugs and medical devices. Their main area of focus is medical aesthetics, eye care, central nervous system and gastroenterology. If you’ve ever heard about Botox, then you already have a pretty good knowledge because they are the maker of Botox. They are also popular for their eye-care product – Allergan eye drops. Their other products like Allergan implant recall is pretty famous too.
Allergan plc was formed in March 2015. This happened when Irish-registered Actavis Plc acquired U.S.-registered Allergan, Inc. and hence the name Allergan was issued.
Allergan sold their generic business, Actavis, to Teva for $40.5 billion in 2016.
In June 2019, Abbvie reached an agreement to acquire Allergan for a reported amount of $63 billion. On May 8, 2020, AbbVie completed its acquisition of Allergan.
